Win a signed copy of Misunderstood!

A few weeks ago Facebook pointed out to me that the Misunderstood page has over 900 likes, and suggested I celebrate this milestone. I couldn’t be bothered – hah! But then I thought, well, 1000 is a pretty nice round number, why don’t I celebrate that instead? And so I’ve decided to celebrate by mailing *one lucky winner* a signed copy of my book!

Here’s the deal: to enter the draw, comment on this post. That’s it!

Once the Misunderstood page on facebook hits 1,000 likes, I’ll use a randomiser to pick a winner from the list of comments. If that’s you, I’ll email you to arrange sending a personalised book to you (or someone you want to gift it to!)

You’ll be required to enter an email address in order to comment. Your email address will NOT be posted publicly, but I’ll be able to see it privately. That’s how I’ll contact you if you’re the winner.

It would also be great if you can share the Misunderstood page with your facebook friends. There’s an “invite friends” option on the right hand side, where you can send an invite (even through messenger) explaining to people what the page is and why you think they might be interested. For example:

I’m inviting you to like this page for the book “Misunderstood” which is about the experience of growing up overseas. I thought you might find it interesting.

Remember, the faster Misunderstood hits 1,000 likes on facebook, the faster there’ll be a winner to send a book to ;)

    • Oh nice! I hope it’s a fantastic experience for you! Misunderstood is definitely intended to be helpful to teachers – I know of a couple of international schools that have put it on their PD reading list for teachers. It has sections on different types of education overseas, and another on the kids of international school teachers, plus lots on the worldview of kids growing up overseas.

    I stumbled across this page through some friends and although I haven’t read the book yet, I am moved by the excerpts written shared and am eager to, especially as I work with many migrants. Thank you for your insight and addressing such an important topic.

  16. Would love another copy to share with others! My current copy is highlighted throughout, so I don’t want to replace it, but hopefully someday I’ll be able to get that one signed, too! :)

  17. Hi Tanya, great to see the book is doing well. Brian always says he was a bicultural kid forging an alternative identity growing up in his own (& patents’) country of birth. Would love to read your book!

  20. Strangely enough I still don’t have a copy for myself 🤔 How did that happen? 🤔
    I did read half of the copy I brought from Beijing in May for my friends, but should have gotten one for me. Well, maybe this is a chance!
    I still need and want to finish the book 😉

  21. Tanya (if I may call your first name) Just picked up your book, and can’t put it down! We are at our first post (Cambodia) and my TCK is 7 years old. Your book has been so insightful for the present and preparing for the future. I am not done reading it yet but I plan to reread it as I know I will discover more nuggets of wisdom! Sign me up for a signed copy!
    Are there any TCK conferences that you recommend? Are you presenting at any in the near future in Asia? Thanks!

    • Hi Paola! So glad you’re finding it helpful 😊 I highly recommend Families In Global Transition annual conference, which will be in Asia for the first time soon! Bangkok, April 26-28 2019. I’ll be there, and planning to present something. I’ll be sharing more information about the conference when registrations open.

  24. I was just talking to my friend the other day about whether or not they should go abroad with their kids. He is afraid they will become rootless. I hope I can win this book and give it to him 🙂 Either way, I look forward to reading it myself.

    • Aw that’s lovely Ida, I hope you find the book helpful! The short story is that yes, they may become less rooted in place, and especially less rooted in their passport country. But overall it is a rewarding experience, especially when parents are aware of potential difficulties so they can give their kids effective support. According to the research I conducted, most TCKs are thankful for the experience even if they also say it was difficult.
